What is CBD?


CBD (short for Cannabidiol) is one of over 100 Phytocannabinoids (chemical compounds) found in the Cannabis Hemp plant. CBD makes up for over 40% of the plant’s extract. Other Cannabinoids include THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid), CBDA (cannabidiolic acid), CBN (cannabinol), CBG (cannabigerol), CBC (cannabichromene) and CBL (cannabicyclol).


CBD is normally extracted from the “Hemp” plant (a term used to classify varieties of Cannabis that contain 0.3% or less THC content (by dry weight).





Will CBD get me “high”?


CBD has no Psychoactive (mind altering) effects (unlike THC which is the principal psychoactive constituent of Marijuana). CBD will not make you “high” or drowsy unlike THC.




Is CBD Legal?


CBD products are completely legal in the UK* and can only be sold as “Food Supplements”.

The exact same CBD products are sold in America as medicines and need a prescription under medical license. Because of this, American CBD companies often advertise their products to help with everything from Anxiety to Cancer. In the UK the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) forbid anyone to make any medical claims at all. That is why at CBD-UK, we never try and sell or describe CBD as medicinal.

*There are some exceptions. CBD Oil and CBS Edibles (sweets etc) are not allowed to be made unsing CBD Isolate. CBD-UK do not stock isolate CBD edibles.




Is all CBD the same?


CBD comes in various forms: Full Spectrum and Broad Spectrum and Isolate.


Full-spectrum CBD is made with an extract that contains all or nearly all of the compounds naturally present in the cannabis plant. This obviously includes CBD, as well as other cannabinoids (CBN, CBC, and CBG to name just a few), terpenes, flavonoids, and much more.


CBD isolate, on the other hand, contains only CBD.


Broad Spectrum (often called “distillate”) is in between the 2 and is normally “THC free” but still contains some of the other Cannabinoids.
