Why the coat is the first thing to suffer
A dog's skin is their largest organ, and the coat growing out of it is made almost entirely of protein and fat. When a dog's diet is short on the right fats, or when age, stress, a change of food or the change of season puts the body under strain, the skin and coat are the first to show it, because the body sends nutrients to the essentials first and the coat last. You see it as dandruff, a dull or greasy coat, hair coming out in handfuls, hot spots and a dog that scratches, licks or chews without an obvious reason.
Omega-3 fatty acids are the nutrient that makes the biggest difference, and they're the one most dog foods are shortest on. Fish oil has been the standard vet recommendation for skin and coat for decades; the problem is getting it into the dog every day. A soft chew fixes that.
How Skin & Coat Dog Treats work
The salmon oil supplies EPA and DHA, the two long-chain omega-3s that the skin builds into its cell membranes and its protective oil barrier. A well-supplied barrier holds moisture in and irritants out, which is why omega-3s are linked to less dryness, less flaking and calmer skin. The same fats condition the coat from the follicle outward, so it grows through softer and glossier and sheds normally rather than in clumps. Vitamins C and E protect those fats and the skin cells from oxidation, and vitamin C is needed to make the collagen that gives skin its structure. Linseed in the base adds the plant omega-3 ALA, and brewer's yeast is a natural source of the B vitamins the skin and coat draw on.

Salmon oil, 300mg
Salmon oil is the richest common source of EPA and DHA, the omega-3s dogs use most efficiently; plant oils supply ALA, which dogs convert to EPA and DHA only poorly. At 300mg per chew, the feeding guide gives a small dog 300mg a day and a large dog 900mg, a meaningful daily amount in a treat rather than a pump of oil on the food.
Vitamin C, 25mg
Dogs make their own vitamin C, but skin under stress uses more. It's an antioxidant that protects skin cells, and it's required to build collagen, the protein that gives skin its strength and elasticity.
Vitamin E, 2mg
The fat-soluble antioxidant that protects the omega-3s in this chew, and the fats in skin cell membranes, from oxidation. Vitamin E and fish oil are almost always fed together for that reason.
The chew base is made from wholesome ingredients including linseed (plant omega-3), brewer's yeast (B vitamins), coconut oil and beet pulp, with rosemary extract and tocopherols as natural preservatives. No artificial colours or preservatives.

- Weeks 4 to 6: the first changes: less dandruff, skin that feels softer, a coat that's starting to gleam and sheds less on the sofa.
- Two to three months: the full effect, as the coat that grew through on the new diet replaces the old. Most owners keep going, because the shine lasts only as long as the omega-3s are being supplied.

Are there any side effects?
Very few. Occasionally a dog has slightly softer stools in the first few days as the oils bed in, which settles on its own; splitting the daily amount across two meals helps. Stop and contact your vet if you notice anything that concerns you.
What happens if my dog eats too many?
They're a complementary food, not a medicine, so an extra chew or two is unlikely to cause more than a looser stool. If a dog gets into the tub and eats a large number, expect an upset stomach from the oil and contact your vet if you're worried. Keep the tub out of reach.
How long does one tub last?
